Chua Soi Lek for MCA President?

The only difference is that while Anwar Ibrahim was in most likelihood framed and not guilty, Chua Soi Lek was caught red handed, pants down and penis up.

He does not have the moral ground that Anwar Ibrahim claims.

People say that he is entitled to his privacy and his personal life with his personal friend...

Chua Soi Lek for MCA President?

The house of MCA seems to be headed towards pretty interesting times. Members are defecting to DAP and those that remain are divided among themselves. Some are pledging unwavering support for Ong Ka Ting while others are bent on preventing the formation of an Ong Dynasty.

Silently, former Health Minister Chua Soi Lek is planning his moves, hatching a comeback into mainstream politics.

After a surprise silence since his resignation, he is now accusing the Ong brothers of power hoarding, accusing Ong Ka Ting of attempting to be the “unchallengeable president”.

There is wide speculation that Chua Soi Lek has plans to challenge the Ong brothers for the MCA presidency, probably in a team-up with Chua Jui Meng and Chan Kong Choy.

People commended Chua Soi Lek after his bold and courageous confession that “he was the man” in the DVD featuring an amorous couple in a hotel room in Johor. Many went on to say that it was a waste that he had to resign despite being a “good Health Minister”.

I sincerely don’t understand why many think that he was a great minister. Credit be given to him for raising the on-call allowances for government doctors from a meagre RM 25 per day to RM 100. Having said that however, we must bear in mind that the cost of fuel rose from RM 1.10 to RM 1.92 per liter over the last four years. Therefore, adjusted for inflation, the apparent 300% rise in the absolute figure of on-call allowances isn’t really that much to be deemed a lasting legacy of a health minister.

It’s not always about the money too. Mostly, doctors leave the government service because they are frustrated with the ailing healthcare system of Malaysia.

Rather than improving the working conditions of doctors, Chua Soi Lek took a backdoor approach, not unlike his copulative preferences, or so I heard.

He made the private healthcare sector increasingly rigid and unfriendly to doctors with uncompromising and unreasonable regulations in the Private Healthcare Services and Facilities Act. Instead of coming up with ways to encourage doctors to stay within the civil service, he came up with devious means to discourage doctors from leaving the Ministry of Health.

Our public hospitals remain in shambles where they are needed the most in rural areas while unjustified amounts of ringgit are invested in underperforming urban centres like Hospital Ampang. The rich receive increasingly better healthcare services while the poor are still stuck in medieval ages.

So seriously, I don’t see how he really performed up to par even as Health Minister then.

He is now gunning for the top post in MCA, presenting himself as a victim of circumstances and a fallen hero in an internal sabotage. Chua Soi Lek is now the Chinese version of Anwar Ibrahim – disgraced, humiliated, back for vengeance and ready to claim casualties by aiming for the highest post possible.

The only difference is that while Anwar Ibrahim was in most likelihood framed and not guilty, Chua Soi Lek was caught red handed, pants down and penis up.

He does not have the moral ground that Anwar Ibrahim claims.

People say that he is entitled to his privacy and his personal life with his personal friend.

We need to get things in proper perspective, one that is objective and not emotional. He confessed to his misdemeanor rather quickly and boldly – but only because he had no other choice. Even so, one must remember his cockiness throughout the episode.

He apologized but with an expectation for his adulterous act to be forgiven, forgotten and not held against him. He even remarked that “honesty is not always rewarded accordingly”. He refused to resign until excessive external pressure, and did not leave before declaring that his biggest mistake was to “rent the same hotel room each time..”.

Here is a married man who mated like a sex-starved rabbit while assuming the roles of a seemingly filial husband, an apparently loving father and a supposed responsible cabinet minister all at one go.

He did not see it wrong to have assumed office by the votes of the rakyat who thought of him as a person of intergrity.

He did not think it was wrong to have told his wife repeatedly that he was going for yet another political function but headed off to screw a lady young enough to be his daughter.

He did not feel guilty because he lived a life of hypocrisy.

In his mind, his biggest mistake was not a life of lies and infidelity.

To Chua Soi Lek, his biggest mistake was to be careless and allowed his political enemies to ensnare him in his moment of living out his uninhibited sexual desires.

From the sublime to the ridiculous.

This is my response to this blog and the one about Lim Guan Eng: A Voice Of Moderation.

Chua Soi Leck as president of MCA?

What an audacious idea.

His temerity to mount a political comeback so soon after what happened is galling to put it mildly (if he is indeed contemplating a comeback). Why, this man’s ambition knows no bounds (can’t even wait for the dust to settle).

Cannot phantom why anyone would consider a political candidate like him when he didn’t even bother to appear to be suitably contrite after the scandal exploded in his face. Instead he was **belligerent and quick to dismiss the expose as mere peccadilloes, implying that it was a common enough foible of a normal hot-blooded male. To his mind, it was a whiff of scandal that was blown way out of proportion.

Remember how he vehemently and emphatically rejected calls for his resignation? One got the impression that he couldn’t for the life of him understand why there was so much brouhaha over what he considers a private matter and was absolutely adamant about clinging on to power even though his beleaguered political career was already in its death throes.

On another note, all this political infighting does not augur well for Malaysian Chinese. Instead of closing ranks and showing solidarity there’s so much internal strife. Won’t it be better for them to invest more time & effort improving the lives of the Chinese in Malaysia with emphasis on fighting for a more equitable treatment for the people they claim to represent and an equitable availability and distribution of all resources rather than to waste time bickering among themselves?

I have a deeply entrenched cynicism towards politics and politicians. I have always found their motives and motivation suspect. It’s not uncommon to vote for a particular candidate not because one believes he or she would deliver but more because they are the lesser of two evils so to speak,

Q8-) Bemused by all these political intrigues

** I’m no politician but I think his damage limitation sucks. It’s a crummy tactical move that leaves much to be desired.
